The water cycle

Veolia Vatten works with the entire water cycle. We withdraw and separate water from its natural environment, produce drinking water and distribute it to industrial clients and households. We collect, transport and treat wastewater before releasing it back into its natural environment.

Water resources
Water resources are not inexhaustible. Water consumption is increasingas a result of population growth, rising standards of living, urbanization and changes to industry and farming.Traditional water resources such as rivers, surface water and groundwater are in many cases insufficient. They need to be supplemented with wastewater purification, seawater desalination and other methods for producing drinking water. Veolia Vatten helps municipalities, households and industrial clients by providing long-term, sustainable water management services.

Water for all
For municipalities and their residents. More than half of the world population lives in cities. Major cities are growing both in number and size. Providing these cities with drinking water, purifying wastewater, collecting and treating dirty surface water from the streets, and monitoring the environmental consequences at every stage requires both expertise and resources. Veolia helps the world's municipalities to secure water services for today and the future.

For industries
Water is also a necessity for industrial actors. For example, approximately 35 m³ of water is needed to make a car, 100-120 m³ of water is needed to produce one ton of steel and 4-6 liters of water are needed to produce one liter of beer. The water is used as processing water, for heating and cooling, as an input, to support reactions, to rinse and clean facilities, to prevent fire, etc. By optimizing our customers' processes in terms of water supply and management of water services and by guaranteeing secure operation of water and wastewater services, our customers can focus on their core operations.

Wastewater management services
Handling and treatment of wastewater plays an important part in how well we can preserve our environment and how we can develop water-dependent operations such as agriculture, industry and tourism. Veolia Vatten monitors the handling and treatment of wastewater so that it is pure when it is released back into the ecosystem. Increasing volumes of wastewater mean increasing amounts of sludge. Veolia Vatten provides a broad selection of processes that are adapted to the various end uses for the sludge.
