Veolia Vatten will spread Gryaab REVAQ certified sludge

Veolia Vatten has signed an agreement with Gryaab for sludge handling. The agreement is an environmentally sustainable and holistic commitment meaning that Veolia Vatten will spread REVAQ certified sludge to agricultural land and produce agricultural products.

Under the agreement, Veolia Vatten will take a new responsibility for the disposal of sludge from Ryaverket in Gothenburg. The contract includes loading, transport, interim storage, distribution and quality control of half of the sludge produced in Ryaverket. REVAQ certified sludge will be spread on agricultural land and other sludges will be used for production of agricultural products, such as construction and lawn soil. The agreement could mean new jobs for Veolia Vatten.

- This is an important agreement for us, partly because by this we are building a business of agriculture production in the Gothenburg area, the Veolia Vatten plant in Tjörn. Sludge treatment is an issue that requires specialist knowledge on the environment and for us it is a confidence that Gryaab has chosen Veolia Vatten, says Michael Linhart, Sales Manager at Veolia Vatten.

Veolia Vatten only spreads REVAQ certified sludge, as recommended by the LRF, Svenskt Vatten and several other influential stakeholders. In addition, the Veolia Group has developed a special administration tool, which ensures full traceability throughout the chain, from loading through the dissemination of the local farmer to the soil samples before and after the spread.

- We feel secure with the agreement with Veolia Vatten and look forward to a long-term cooperation. It is about 23000-27000 tonnes of sludge first year. For us it was important to find a partner that can ensure a good handling for a good price, because the sludge handling must be done very carefully, "says Douglas Lumley, Head of Operations Department Gryaab.

The agreement runs for two years and nine months, with two possible extensions of one year per extension. Gryaab and Veolia Vatten is the common intention of the amount REVAQ-sludge to be spread on agricultural land is continuously increasing in 2012 to include 5000-15000 tonnes.
